Ferris comes to Blu-ray with a 1080p AVC/MPEG-4 video presentation. The presentation certainly surpassed my expectations, I definitely didn’t think the film would look nearly as good as it does in high-def. The transfer is also far from perfect, but it easily trumps the DVD release. Colors were vibrant, black levels were quite solid as well. Detail stayed fairly impressive, with some scenes more or less impressive than others. A thin layer of grain is present throughout, and the print is quite clean overall, with a scratch here and there. This won’t amaze, but it will certainly please and maybe even surprise fans of the film. 7.5/10.

Audio
Paramount has included a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio track for the release that is surprisingly aggressive. I was expecting a dialogue/front heavy experience, which it was at times. But the film opens up the surround and creates a fantastic environment for the film. It’s the small little details such as a car or a bird that add so much to what could have been a dull track. The music featured in the film is aggressive and impressive, featuring a lot of depth and clarity when used. 8/10.

Getting the Cast Together: The Cast of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (27:44) (SD)
The crew and cast discuss the casting process and the characters. It’s great for those interested in why those casted were casted over others. It’s very informative as well as entertaining.

The Making of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (15:29) (SD)
I love whenever behind-the-scenes footage is included, and it’s mixed with cast and crew interviews on the script, and explanations on how they did certain things in the film.

Who Is Ferris Bueller? (9:13) (SD)
A feature all about the main character in the film. It’s the typical gush that comes when discussing the work in the film, and how great Matthew was.

The World According to Ben Stein (10:50) (SD)
Aaah, Ben Stein. The man who made ‘Bueller’ famous discusses his character and himself. It features a mix of footage from different interviews.

Vintage Ferris Bueller: The Lost Tapes (10:16) (SD)
On set interviews between Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck. Also featured is Jeffry Jones and Mia Sara. It’s very home video style and quite funny.

Blu-news Summary

Ferris Bueller is just one of those films that can be enjoyed by all ages, and still holds up very well. The film features memorable characters, a fantastic cast, and just a fun time. The story is very funny, and takes things to the extreme when it comes to missing school.

The Blu-ray release is just as nice as the film, with pleasing video and surprising audio. Extras are ported over from the previous DVD release, and fans of the film should upgrade without hesitation. To all others, this is ‘Recommended.‘
